We welcome all competitors and Spectators from near and far.
Come join us for the Ngātiwai Horsemans challenge, in the beautiful coastal whenua-Mimiwhangata. The day will begin with a ‘Cowboy challenge’ followed by the full throttle horse sports events of (reverse bending/ jumping stock horse/ circuit flag / medley and topping it off with a mystery event. The thunderous sound of hoof beats will see us out for the day with the exciting beach races.
There will be 2 divisions in the Cowboy Challenge - Youth (14 - 17) and Open (18 and over). In order to enter either division, your horse should have reasonable handle and should be able to ideally offer a sidepass and a backup.
the course
The cowboy challenge will be held over flat terrain and will consist of 13 obstacles scattered across the course. All obstacles will be depict what a typical work horse in a coastal area will encounter on a day to day basis, eg. load into a float; wade through the surf; navigate through bush or jump over a fallen tree.

horse holding pen
For all horses, you will need to bring electric tape and standards, to make a small holding pen. There will be water available for washing and watering your horses. (no need to remove manure)
camping overnight
There will be a designated area for those wanting to camp the nights before and after the event, with spaces for the horses. Setup on-site from Thursday 4pm (Mimiwhangata wool shed paddock/ will be signposted)

Helmets are mandatory for the beach races!!! all other events are optional. Most important for those wanting to enter the events, you will have to sign an indemnity form and agree to abide with all the health and safety terms for the event. Safety is paramount, so only those with signed forms by the close off date, will be permitted to enter the events. No exceptions.
